BIDV, MetLife to Establish Life Insurance Joint Venture

BIDV – founded in 1957, the eldest commercial bank in Vietnam – is one of the big four state-run commercial banks in Vietnam. The others are Vietcombank, Agribank, and Vietinbank. BIDV has interests in securities, insurance, and a presence in several countries like Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Czech Republic.

BIDV went public on December 29, 2012. It is expected that BIDV will make its debut on stock market in the last quarter of this year.

BIDV used to form a non-life insurance joint venture with the Australian international insurance firm QBE in 1999. The bank acquired the joint venture in Jan. 2006, forming BIDV Insurance Corporation (BIC). BIC is currently listed on Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HSX: BIC).
